Harnessing a patent to
its full potential.
FastComm is a network equipment manufacturer focused on signaling, voice, and data system solutions. In 1992, the company acquired a patent related to the FastCaller, a small card-sized product designed to dial preprogrammed phone numbers by playing tones. The technology represented a viable profit center, but could not be fully developed by FastComm because their interests lied elsewhere. PhoneTel took over management of the patent in 1998 and has since generated significant revenues for FastComm through its licensing efforts.

Defending patent rights.
In the interest of protecting a patent developed by Dr. Kazuo Hashimoto that established the fundamentals of “Caller ID,” PhoneTel successfully defended reexamination of
the patent by AT&T, which resulted in licenses to virtually every telecommunications and computer company in the world.
PhoneTel’s legacy is harvesting value from the portfolio of one of history’s most prolific inventors, a pioneer of telecommunications. However, in every sector of business lies a
wealth of untapped patent potential. PhoneTel seeks continued growth by providing value to patent owners in Internet, media, manufacturing, medicine and other sectors.
